Neurological symptoms mean that my yoga practice consists of a series of tremors, shakes and general wobbliness. Legs jerk out at random and hands slap. More recently there are vocal expressions such as unprompted grunts and lip smacking. A short practice sparks a plethora of interesting shakes which lasts sometimes for more than an hour.
My Alexander teacher called this 'the unstructured dance'. I am learning that these movements can be observed and then followed. I do not interrupt how the body chooses to express itself. If I am in company then I am finding coping strategies, not to suppress, but to find some other outlet.
Bury your head in the sand. Come up for air when absolutely necessary. Ignore all advice. Become out of balance. Carry on working. Collapse. Be diagnosed with a chronic disease. In other words it's hard work reaching a stage in life when the whole self is out of balance and becomes sick on all levels.
